Chalk paint is a designer's choice

Randy Orr - Wednesday, April 01, 2009

It was a pretty busy March, so much so that there was little blogging time. Oh well, that is what happens when your s t r e t c h e d. I will make a better effort this month to keep the latest coming...

Check it out... what one of the designers I work with Zusette has created in her display suites.

Zusette used Tilano Captain Brown Chalkboard Paint to create the perfect back drop to the meals of the day! It simply helps to set the mood. Simple and effective.

Captain Brown even works as the perfect back drop to a doggy stencil for this boys room feature wall.

Chalk Paint and Beyond

Randy Orr - Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Where does the time go... here it is  March 16th already...and I have not made a post since March 5.
Busy in the creative industry I work in can take me away from the day-to-day.
Blogging is one of them, I have the intent to make an entry and the idea of what I would like to share, but the crazy pace of decorative artist life in this wacky economy is just that - wacky. There seems to be less time? A recession? Does it not mean we should have more time available?

Back the business, had last minute call for a display suite last week and I had Tilano Chalkboard paints to the rescue again. Luckily, this designer was open the same design as the last. Therefore I was able to use Confetti White with a warm silver metallic glaze to pull the project together pronto and to a completion.

Here's where it started and finished.

As I mentioned before, I'm pleasantly surprised at the strength of the Chalkpaints from Tilano, they stick very well to just about anything, they dry fast and you can use left overs from craft projects on real projects for home decorating.
Take it beyond the expected...

Tilano Templates
Here is a new video for a simple way to use the Tilano Templates located on Tilano.net site.
There are a variety of templates to pick from to help embellish your picture and give it something a little extra.

Photo Transfers on Marmorino Plaster?

Randy Orr - Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Slide.001

Ever wonder what a photo transfer would look like if you were to place it on to real Marmorino Lime Plaster?
Propably not, that's ok, since it's my job to think "what would it look like if....". Thus I try transferring photos on a variety of surfaces.

This is one I have never tried?

Lime Plaster -  I'm going to give it a try and see what happens.
Lime Plaster is an organic product I use for a variety of wall finishes, counter tops and mantles for my interior decorating biz here in Vancouver - Distinct Interiors. Since I have a bunch of left over material from recent jobs I'm going to try out some transfer on the Lime Plaster.
I love working with organic materials and much like wood, Lime Plaster has a wonderful tactile presence to it. As you build your layers of plaster, the limestone in the product begins to come to life, with incredible results as the plaster dries and turns back into stone.

Transfers on to black Slate tile

Chalkboard Paint and Coasters - What do they have in common?
They both love photo transfers!
It's a perfect match - heck, it's February after all!!

Inspire a Chalkboard of Ideas

Randy Orr - Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Writing your thoughts to share creativity and inspiration help others with the ideas that may be circulating within themselves. There is always another idea just around the corner, sometimes it just takes chance coincidence - timing is everything.
This chalkboard wall inspired me today, I was at a designers office for a meeting and the design team uses the wall to express brainstorming thoughts, it's a team effort.
'Just get it out there, you never know where it will take you.'

Valentines Slate Coasters

Randy Orr - Thursday, February 12, 2009

On Time Valentines - Wow!
Yes I made the coasters just in time, a day early. Pretty good for husband that usually enjoys the pressure of the last minute gifting.
I was making some videos today that I will post later next week, one was on how-to use our themed templates and the other two where for chalkpaints and how-to transfer onto chalkpaint. Confused?
Why would you transfer onto Chalkpaints? Doesn't make sense... it will, stay tuned.
If you haven't made your gifts for V-Day, get busy!

Valentines Gift Ideas - Tilano Coaster
Well it's almost a year ago, but the season and sentiment remains the same. Tilano Marble Coaster Kit was one of the featured product with Diane Sawyer and Cameron Mathison, "personalized" was theme for this segment. Cameron actually made the coasters on display, pictures of his children "really easy to do". Heck he is a guy and he gets it! cool.

Photo Transfer onto Glass Tiles

Randy Orr - Monday, February 09, 2009

I have received some emails on how to transfer onto glass, so I just uploaded a video for the Ornamento Magnet Kit. The coolest thing about transferring a photo onto glass is that you see your image as you do the transfer, therefore it is the easiest.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-S-Kn_TLUs&hl=en&fs=1]
