Great Colour
A simple lesson about colour and effects of it in Lime Plaster were on display at IDSwest. It should be noted that not all colours come out looking as they do to there original formula or reference in Lime Plaster, especially brilliant colours.
Since we were displaying Tadelakt in Vancouver at IDSwest, I thought it would be interesting to showcase the colour of the year for 2011, Honeysuckle link. A cool aspect of Tadelakt is it's unique ability to take in colour beyond a value. Meaning it can match the brilliant and dark colours very well. A unique occurrence happens when Mother Nature is drying this Morocann Plaster, a field of depth occurs in the stone which helps telegraph movement in composition of the curing stone, you just don't get with other plasters.
since it may be hard to read in the photo...
What is Tadelakt? it is a bright, nearly waterproof lime plaster which can be used on the inside of buildings and on the outside. It is the traditional coating of the palaces, hammams and bathrooms of the riads in Morocco.
But we see nothing traditional about it for Vancouver, this Old World plaster works perfectly to create contemporary Mantels, Fireplace Surrounds, BackSpalshes and Wall Features.
We will be featuring Tadelakt for the month of October.
What you will see us create is:
- 2 Custom Tadelakt Mantels and Fireplace Mantels with surrounds, one in Vancouver and the other in Tsawwassen
- a Tadelakt shower, where we create a complete bathroom in Tadelakt. Seamless walls, ceiling, floor and sink! Yes a sink and shower made of Plaster!? Can it be done?... watch & see....
- And a large install of Tadelakt in a restaurant in Vancouver, the largest ever! Once we get rolling or troweling I should say, we will share more...
