While our pedigree comes from being in the Vancouver decorative painting industry our passion lies with decorative finishing - faux, lime, plaster, murals and wood restoration. Faux or decorative finishing was all the rage in the 90’s, along with murals. Glazes and multi layered glazes were abound in restaurants and homes, decorative stenciling came to fashion in the late 90’s with damasks and is still used today, but a more popular trend is silhouettes patterns and bar coding in interiors these days. This is where our demand has been.

Decorative Painting Trends

As interior design trends change, so must the artisan. Today the focus for Distinct Interiors and the clients we search, is on environmentally green products. That is why in recent years Distinct Interiors researched and became certified applicators of organic Lime Plasters from Italy.

The trend we see, is that home owners and designers are becoming more educated for such ‘green’ products. The demand is high and having the experience with Lime plasters is crucial. Although the Lime Plaster products have been around for centuries there is a misconception that they are for ‘older or rustic’ looking interiors.

But, we see the opposite, we use techniques from today and craftsmanship of yesterday in concert to make the lime plasters into non traditional applications and features. Custom Lime Plaster finishes make very distinctive finishes for today’s interiors!

Since becoming a dad in recent years, Randy realized the importance and need for ‘green’ paint products, so he created a line of colour ( 10 colours ) Chalkboard Paints perfect for kids and interior decorating details. “They are eco-friendly, good for virtually any surface that you can paint and turn into Chalkboard surface. There is more than just black and white when it comes chalkboards, now there is colour!”
