What is decorative concrete overlay?

Thin veneers of a special concrete mix are applied directly onto a substrate surface, in multiple layers, to create a strong, durable surface. At Distinct Interiors, our artisans apply multiple layers over a period of 5 - 10 business days to create a seamless, handcraft, custom finish.

Our lightweight concrete overlays are as strong as stone and built to last a lifetime

Distinct Interiors’ concrete mix is our own in-house formula developed over years of testing. Our concrete overlays are highly versatile: they are non-combustible for use on fireplace surrounds, and can be sealed for use anywhere water or staining may be an issue.

Features of our concrete overlay:

  • 1/8” to 1/4” thick

  • Ultra-lioghtweight

  • Handcrafted, seamless finish

  • Highly durable and strong

  • Non-combustible

  • Water-resistant

  • Breathable

  • Mold-resistant

  • Eco-friendly

  • Available in a range of finishes that mimic architectural concrete

Why use concrete overlay instead of architectural concrete or solid stone?

In projects where the structural support of concrete or stone isn’t needed, our concrete overlays offer a design freedom that can’t be matched by traditional concrete or solid stone installations.

Lightweight concrete overlays give you the high-end look of architectural concrete with the design freedom of decorative finishing techniques. You get all of concrete’s creative possibilities, with no weight or shape restrictions, molds or curing issues - it becomes possible to create large concrete features or statement pieces in ordinary homes or businesses.

The design possibilities are endless: multi-storey feature walls and soaring fireplace surrounds- along with lobbies, backsplashes, privacy walls and reception desks- can be turned into statement pieces that define a room. Distinct Interiors works with homeowners, designers, architects, and builders on residential and commercial projects to create one-of-a-kind concrete features- visit our project gallery to see a selection of our projects.
